From Leagues to Tournaments
December 23rd marks the date of the 1st annual Blendos Holiday 5 on 5 basketball tournament. This tournament was generated for people that cannot commit to a league schedule. This also created an opportunity for college kids and former area athletes coming home to visit family for the holidays, a chance to participate.
In 2016, the Blendos Health & Longevity Movement has made significant strides with recreational opportunities for the Oneonta Community. The creation of the spring and winter leagues now provide year round competitive recreational functions. Blendos was also approved to start a flag football and kickball league but had to refocus efforts due to a conflicting time schedule.
The leagues have brought in a record 61 teams this year for league play and plan to have at least 10 teams for the Holiday tournament. The tournament is bringing in teams from Albany, Binghamton, Elmira etc. to compete against local 607 talent. This tournament has the potential to be the most competitive blendos event ever assembled featuring some big names. Most, if not all teams have at least 1 or 2 players that have college basketball experience.
The tournament will also have a 3PT and Dunk Contest. We plan to be able to record all games/ competitions and they will be published to our YouTube page.
Admission to the tournament is absolutely free so if you would like to come watch some very entertaining basketball and celebrate the holidays with our basketball community, come out and watch the games.
Concessions will be available and don't forget to ask about Blendos T-shirt or wristband !
