Blendos Spring Basketball League Week 3 Recap

Submitted By Cam Hayes 3/25/2025

What another exciting week of spring league basketball! This week we also had fewer technical fouls issued, which also brings up a topic to be discussed later in the blog.

What I enjoyed seeing the most at the league this weekend was seeing multiple people stopping to help someone get up from the opposing team. A strong indictor of a positive community event shows mutual respect for your opponent. I personally believe the annual Mark Hendrickson Sportsmanship Award is one of the leagues highest honors.

Heliconia leads the Blendos Spring Basketball B League standings with a perfect 3-0 record after week 4, closely followed by Team Blendos (Brown).

Team Blendos needs to increase the number of team assists and get back to run and gun basketball. If Team Blendos can continue averaging over 100 ppg, they will be difficult to beat.

Despite a strong effort from Midnight’s Jared Benson, who scored 25 points, Carolina’s balanced team performance secured the victory.

In this game it was completely evident that the A league speed is about 5-6x faster than typical B league games. It was also clear to see who has been in the gym using the shooting machine and practicing their craft.

This game was much closer than the box score shows. The Carolina team was leading prior to a huge 3 pointer and stolen inbound pass by Jared Benson for 2 at the buzzer.

Its truly unfortunate that there was no video for this game as it was filled with spectacular shots and several dunks. The deciding factor ultimately came in the final minutes when team captain Graham Wooden lost his cool and received a technical foul with under 2 mins remaining while the game as 95-96 awaiting 2 free throws for Carolina. The Blendos technical rule makes a player sit for 5 minutes and awards the other team with an automatic 2 points applied to the teams captain and they get possession of the ball.

A noteable stat for the Carolina Blue team is that Shemar Duncan came alive on the boards finishing with 8 rebounds after having 0 in the first half.

Dylan Jaklitsch almost had 10 assists before half time (9) and Jared Benson only missed 1 shot in the first half.

Blendos Spring Basketball leagues kick off with the first Co-Ed games this Friday, March 28, 2025, and continue with Men's A and B leagues on Sunday, March 30.

Commissioner's Rank

  1. Heliconia (Free Agent 1) The Heliconia team will face a real test this Sunday in a quest to remain undefeated. Evan Lane & Ray Williams will lead the surge vs Team Blendos, also undefeated.

  2. Team Blendos (Brown)

Team Blendos had a scare at the buzzer last week and they were missing key players from the original roster. Team Blendos has two games this week. Will Matt Finne ever show ? Check the roster!

  3. Poolbrook Contracting (White) Don't let their current record confuse you. If this team can bring the same team as 3/23 plus Jr Koren, they will be extremely tough to beat.

  4. Military Green The Military Green team will look to bounce back after a devasting loss to Team Blendos week 3. Military Green was without Star player Jo Annan, will he be in attendance for MG week 4? Does MG have any new roster additions, stay tuned.

  5. Berry The Berry team has faced some adversity early on in the spring season but this helps them be battle tested as we approach the second half of the season. The team has been without Kevin Kurkowski and Dylan Jaklitsch is currently averaging a double-double with points and assists accompanied by Devon Chabot averaging a double-double with points and rebounds.

  6. Sand

Jimmy Donley & Stevie Melendez re-unite week 3 and will look to build on team chemistry with Trevor Huntsman & Matt Zynda. Chase Colley helps the offensive production for Sand.

  7. Irish Green The Irish Green team will face some challenges in the upcoming games. Ryan Ashline & George Sheley will look to bounce back after a tough loss to Berry on Sunday.

  8. Oneonta Job Corps Academy (Black) The Black team has struggled recently losing 3 straight. They were able to bounce back vs Sand before ultimately losing by 1 point. This team will need to work on their overall team chemistry and find a way to score above 50 points with at least 10 team assists

  9. Violet This team has been all Park no Popp, Literally where is Parker Popp? Anyways, Pat Terk is thrilled with the addition of Zyeir Lawrence and is looking to add 1-2 guys to help the Violet team get their first win.

Special Reminder that for the B league the top 8 of 9 teams will make the playoffs but the Blendos rule is that if you do not win a game, you are not eligible for playoffs.
