The True Origin Story
Oneonta has never seen anything like this.
In fact, most places in New York — or anywhere in the country — don’t have a program that comes close.
In May 2013, the existing Oneonta summer league shut down. I was in the middle of finals week at SUNY Brockport, still in spring football, when the news hit. At the same time, my plan to sublease a smoothie bar inside Tino’s Pizzeria (called Blendos because I was literally trying to “blend in” to his restaurant) fell apart.
Instead of walking away, I got resourceful. I researched the best league structures across the country, secured venues, insurance, certified referees, built schedules, recruited volunteers, bought equipment, and on June 4th 2013, ran the first games of what became the Blendos Health & Longevity Movement, turning plans to action and dreams into reality.
Eight teams showed up. The first champion was Green – no sponsor, just a color.
The Blendos Health & Longevity Movement has severviced Over 2,0000 unique players. More than 1000 teams created. Over 5,500 total games played.
Four seasonal leagues. Youth camps. Co-ed. Women’s (2014–2016). Fall/Winter Open. The Blend-A-Rama weekend 3-on-3 tournament. The Holiday 5-on-5 Tournament (2016–2022). The Oneonta Octane ABA semi-pro team (2017–2018) — smallest market in the league, still beat the #1 team in the nation (Binghamton Bulldogs).
